Hi all. We’ve recently rehomed a horse from a reputable rescue centre . His behaviour the last few weeks has deteriorated but we put that down to new surroundings etc, and we’re determined to be gentle with him and go back to basics. However we have now found out that the horse we rehomed had a history of ‘nasty stomach ulcers’ back in 2021. We discovered this by trawling through a Facebook group of past adopters on the rescue ‘friends of’ page. So the centre would have been aware. Should I not have been told about this prior to rehome? I feel I should have been told. I don’t want to name the centre.

Did you ask for previous vet history? If so yes you should have been told, maybe contact them, ask the question and discuss if any other concerns about his behaviour.

2021 isn’t that long ago, and it would affect what his management should be. I’d expect to have been told.
That’s what I thought. Under management and medical conditions there was nothing on his care sheet. We had a professional out this evening to assess him and he suspects pain. Ok , I thought , let’s get some imaging, X-rays done etc, then we put in a fb page search and there it was. The nasty ulcers were found and treated successfully according to the old owner, but was returned about 6 months later to the centre. I do feel I should have been told this . Thanks all

I agree, you’d definitely want to see a comment about them. You’d expect a management recommendation about plenty of forage, low hard feed, preferable to be turnout out etc.
