HI Moonfairy here, hi to one and all, needs some advice.
I am starting riding lessons soon, have my boots and kit.
When one becomes experienced I would like to buy my first horse, being new to this world I would not know for a first horse what I would buy. It is not just about riding a horse, one needs to be at one with these magnificent animals
Has anyone ever met Jayne Lavender, fantastic with Horses.
Some advice would be exceedingly fantastic for me at this time.

The only advice I can give you is - Wait.
You are a long way from being ready to buy your own horse yet, and when you start to be ready you will have a better idea of what you need. Get some experience in looking after horses by doing some work, even unpaid, at your riding school. Then I would recommend that you start by looking to share a horse, then you will have an experienced owner to help you over some of the "new owner" hurdles.
Owning a horse is an expensive and sometimes stressful hobby. I sometimes wish I'd stuck with riding lessons!
There you go!

Wait wait wait.
Make sure you are reasonably secure and confident in the saddle, and make sure that you have also gained experience of the care side of things too, maybe helping regularly at your riding school. Then a good next step is sharing to get a real feel for what it's like - this is what I did and I think it worked. Although I may have been a little over cautious waiting 30yrs!

Defo agree,

You need to wait Horses are big inteligent animals and need alot of care.

I would stick to riding lessons then move on to your horse owners certificate etc.

Ask if you can help down at your stables and observe the Do's and Dont's.

I would just add though I have my certificates own horses and been riding 23 years but i still dont know everything

I dont think any horse person will ever know everything were learning all the time.

Good luck and please let us know how your lessons are doing.

I agree that you are quite far away from needing to be concerened with what will be best for you as far as ownership goes . You may not even know what kind of riding you will want to do long term until you get a real feel of it through your lessons. Just remember that we ALL had to start somewhere!

I think it is wonderful you are giving horses a try and just wanted to wish you the very best of luck!

slow down- why the rush. In all fairness, if you need to ask what to get then you are definitely not ready for a horse!! Whilst asking for advice and comments from others is great, and everyone learns by the little tit bits of knowledge, but asking a huge question like that worries me.
Have some lessons and become a great rider, as well as getting involved at the yard. I'm afraid buying a horse (sensibly) is probably and should be years away. I don't want to put you off, but just give you an idea of what a responsibility it is and the immense knowledge about so many things that is needed. Horses are big animals, and entirely dependent on you to care for them correctly.
Enjoy the riding lessons and get involved with horses as much as you can!!! Good luck!

you really need to wait in this game or you will get yourself into all sorts of trouble. however do you have any friends or family with horses that you can go and help with and get some experience?

Wait Wait Wait, Owning a horse is a Massive responsibility, Take time enjoy lessons progress wtihin them, help out at the yard as much as you can there is a lot to learn,Looking into taking exams, in time you will know more about the direction you want to take your riding and that in turn you will understand and work out more what type of horse is right for you, but at the moment I would advise to wait......

I thought that might be the case. But as we're being all so polite and helpful we aren't really getting wound up are we?
