Hi, we have a farm dog that has taken a liking to escaping out the open gate. He is a happy dog, with a massive farm to run around on, so I don’t want to tie him up, but what device can I use to stop him?

It’s a. Electric gate that opens and closes all day long- lots of other people coming in and out that we have no control over.

A house that we ride by has some sort of system where there a flags all around the perimeter of their property. The dogs never go outside these. When we ride by they rush up to us but only as far as the flag and then stop.
I’ve no idea what it is but it’s very effective. Presumably some sort of electrical current?

It's an offence (no pun intended) not to have the animal properly contained and a shock collar is at best lazy and probably ineffective, and at worst downright cruel.
This. Shock collars should really be a last resort; I can't think of any dog that would need one, maybe certain LGDs on huge properties where fencing it all isn't possible, but certainly no properly domestic dog.
