I have a young lad who helps out at my yard who has been helping with backing youngsters and riding all sorts of horses over the summer. He's 14, a very quiet rider, never silly and horses just love him. Him parents have finally agreed to get him a horse for christmas so its my job to find it.

Due to the support he will have it does not really matter if the horse is a youngster but I would like it to have started some jumping, even if it is just poles as this is what he really wants to compete in.

SO we looking for 15.2- 16.1hh, any age, any colour, any sex but must be good to hack out and eventually take showjumping.

But we only have £1500 to spend. we based in essex near colchester.

Hope you like a challenge, just imagine his face on xmas morning

you could take a punt and try the Ascot sales? its a bit of an unknown but if you work through the catalogue first to pick out the most likely options, be strict about the confirmation, then it is really good fun. I have bought 2 from there, and while they didn't make it eventing, they turned out to be really good all rounders and good fun.

i couldnt get the link to work but there is a sweet looking mare on horsequest that needs to go asap bright bay, look under allrounders - under 3k - she is almost near the bottom....

and there is a black mare also near that one....

Have you thought about a retrained racehorse ?

I am no expert but they always seem to be advertised at very reasonable prices, and not all have been injured. I would certainly look into it if I was looking to buy with a limited budget.

My friend s got a 5 yr old ex race horse mare 16.2 hh has jumped on lunge but nothing else. Hacks out quietly very sweet etc but is still very green. Think she only wants £900 for her.
She has also got a 16hh black hanovarian gelding 15 yrs old showjumping school master very affectonate but she wants £2500 ono for him.
