stopping a rug biter!!

Hi, can anyone give me their ideas for a product or something I can make up which I can spray onto my turnout rugs so that my horse's field companion is put off trying to bite my boy's bottom and consequently biting holes in my rugs. I thought I could try Cribbox, or someone on the yard has suggested making a spray with mustard powder? The owner of the other horse is aware of his habit and is quite happy for me to do this.

I tried cribbox spray, nobite? and also something else with little success so I tried mixing mustard with hot water, put it in a spray and sprayed my rugs. I do think it helped. Problem is once wet or full of mud, you have to keep reapplying. The thing that stopped the holes was buying a Rambo wug. It broke my heart to think of my lovely expensive rug being ripped to shreds but it stood up to everything, even the horse trying to pick my boy up by his rug and swinging of it I went through cheaper rugs about one every 2 weeks and at one stage was in tears!. Sad I know but I just couldnt afford to keep replacing them.

Stick some chilli powder in it too

It possibly wont work!!I had this problem when my lad was out with a bully

(i know yours isnt and playfulness can be just as bad as rugs are not cheap),i gave up in the end as he destroyed all my weatherbeeta rugs

so i invested £200 and something quid on a rambo plus (ballistic nylon,and barstard horse proof

)and nothing got through it

What rug do you have atm??

It is now in its 3rd winter

and as good as it was when i bought it(just a tad dirtier,lol)!!

Hi thanks for your replies so far. My turnout rugs are several different makes, tho none as expensive as the rambo. My fly rug has four or five holes at the back now! I'll try the mustard first and then the cribbox or no bit. The other horse is a good field mate in other ways so I don't need to change, but this will be their first winter out together and it could cost m a fortune!! So I will also keep in mind the idea of a tougher but dearer rug, thanks.

tbh ya fly rug will take a pasting regardless

well worth inveting in the turnout rug though,will save you longterm

No Bite....by Naff.....fabulous stuff, stopped the yard nibbler from destroying my rugs last year.
