My horses entire rug collection has been ripped to shreds by one of the other horses in the field and I have been trying to think of something I could put on the rugs ( either bad tasting or smelling) to deter the horse from doing it?
any ideas?

You could try spraying rugs with 'bitter bite', its used to stop dogs chewing stuff but reckon it would do the same thing for horses. It might be costly long term though as you'd need to re-apply regularly. If it was me I'd be asking the owner of the other horse to subsidise cost of new rugs!! I paid for a new rug for my friends horse when my mare decided to shred it. Its only fair!

My new boy is apparantly ripping rugs! He has only been in the field with the other horses a week and I think it will calm down when the pecking order sorts itself out but 'apparantly' and I say apparantly as Im with him most of the day and have never seen him do it, he has trashed 3 horses rugs, just from chasing them away from the hay.

Still there is nothing I can do about it, cant seperate them but it does make you feel bad!
