I'm having a clear out and reorganise. wanted to know what other people use in their tackrooms to store numnahs, girths, rugs and other bits and bobs :)

I store my main rugs in a metal feed bin
My lotions and potions are in an old cupboard
My exercise sheets and pony saddle cloths are in another old cupboard
The horses saddle cloths are in a wooden chest
All the bits, girths, boots, hi viz, spare leather work etc are all stored in separate plastic 'flip tops'
And then I have a few shelves full of random bits and bobs.

I have a big plastice storage box under my saddle racks, and a free standing saddle horse with some of the frequently used or drying saddle cloths, my boots and bandages go in here too (BIG box!)

In the feed room we have big shelving, and o that I have 2 front opening storage boxes, one is first aid/lotions and potions etc....the other is supps and general (like screw drivers and head torch!)

I have 2 pieces of baler twine strung up across the shelves to dry towels and stuff.

Rugs are on racks in the stables

wow at the complete tack rack crozet!! that is pretty kool! i like the ideas of the plastic boxes, stops everything getting damp and mouldy :)

My feed is in filing cabinets instead of bins - rat proof and means food is stacked vertically and takes up less space. Spare drawers are used for things like boots etc. Then everything else is in trunks or cupboards, etc.

get thee to your nearest wilkinsons....loaaaaaads of boxes, self stacking, drawers, top opening etc etc in all sizes and colours.
i have 2 x 4 arm rug racks for rugs and saddleclothes, 3 sets of plastic drawers for bandages and tack cleaning etc, 2 huge top opeing boxes for travel kit and spare odds and sods and a big chest for first aid kit.

The best thing I have ever bought for the tackroom is a whip holder. It screws to the wall and holds about 12 whips from jumping to lunging. I am a bit obsessive about having everything tidy and to hand -but its better than scrabbling about the floor trying to find what you want. Best of all it only cost a couple of pounds so definitely a good investment.

My pony's owner works at a supermarket and very kindly 'borrowed' us a few tray type things :D Like the ones they put apples and stuff in? They all stack up so don't take up too much room and are shallow enough to see what's in, but big enough to take a decent amount of stuff! They're great for going to competitions as we don't have our own transport and are always having to borrow. So I have one for my stuff, one for my horse's stuff and one for all the turnout stuff, medical kit, travel bandages for home and everything. Makes it so much easier to transfer it from our tack room to whatever mode of transport we've got for the day :)

I share my tack/feed room with one other on our DIY yard and we each have one side as it were.

Black dustbins for feeds

a great big trunk on wheels bought off Ebay for storing my not in use rugs in (cost me £40, bargain!) The ones in use go in their stables on hanging metal poles suspended on rope.
utility metal shelving units which is where all the lotions and potitions get kept on one shelf.
lots of clear plastic boxes with lids in various different sizes, so I can see whats in what and stack them too either on floor or the shelves. Ideal for boots, bandages, numhahs, girths and so on. Also one has the basic horse first aid kit in. It keeps the dust out apart from anything else.

Hooks on walls for things like pessoa, lunge rope, travel boots which I try and store in their original bags

Saddles bridles etc wall mounted saddle stands, bridle rack thingies, hooks on wall. I don't think you can have too many hooks on the wall in a tack room.

Other suggestions would be hanging racks, mine are scaffolding poles with rope through (use hosepipe to stop rope wearing at ends of pole) or suspended on chain for more storage.

It depends how much space you have at your disposal. at one place I had a whole 12 x 12 stable to use as my store (feed, tools, tack) now I probably have about half that and have had to get more creative (and get rid of some of it)

If it was my own place, I'd probably go for a couple of the heated rug rails as well as the hanging rug racks.

Ditto this ^^^ :) I have one in my lorry too

ohhh another thing, I've found those thin chains (like on a toilet chain) are perfect for hanging rossettes! ;) :) stops them all sliding down a string
