Hello all :)

I'm looking for some advice. I’m moving my mare to a new yard at the end of the month and am wondering what to do about tack storage. It’s a grass livery yard only and has a barn we can keep stuff in but it has large open doorways on two sides so isn’t secure. It is however dry and made of brick. The YO lives on sight and the barn is about 200 feet from their house.

I rent a small room in a shared flat with no extra storage so can’t have tack and rugs at home at all. So I was wondering if there were any affordable ways of keeping my tack secure? YO is happy for me to bolt something to the floor / wall if I want. What do other people use for tack? I have a large wooden trunk with a lock for my rugs but was thinking of a metal container / locker for tack? I don’t have a fortune to spend. Any ideas are very gratefully received!

Hi, I have a "plastic" cupboard in which I store some of my rugs (have too many really !!) which I bought from B&Q a few years ago - think it is supposed to be small outdoor storage shed - have a look as there are quite a few options available which could easily be fixed to a wall and floor and have saddles etc stored in. However just a thought I dont think your tack would be insured as it would not be in a locked building ? I could be wrong though ..

Hi Orbie, thank for your reply. Yes I dont think I would be insured, but I dont think I am at the moment as the tack room at my current yard has more than x sets of tack in it which is one of the very many stipulations in my E & L insurance t&cs. I dont think many people's tack is insured if they check the small print!

Unfortunately I really cant have anything big and horsey in my flat, it just wouldnt be fair on my flatmates, so Im going to have to risk it. Just hoping to get something as secure as possible! I'll look at B&Q, thanks :)
