I am not buying any hay this year as I still have some of last years in my barn and it is good stuff and it is enough to feed my gelding over the winter but my mare always has haylage. Last year I bought approx 70 of the small bales in bulk as I got a really good deal on the price but unfortunately despite it being stored under cover, I lost a fair few to the mice :-(

We have a local feed merchant who supplies very nice haylage and again I want to purchase about 45 bales in one go, 1. because I will get a good price and 2. when the weather gets bad access to our yard becomes very difficult and it seems that forecasters have allready warned of another cold winter ahead.

Now can anybody advise me how to stop the bl@@dy mice and rats from chewing through the wrapping and spoiling the haylage? Traps and poison are all around but not too sure if there is anything else I can do.
