Before I go ahead and do something I regret, are rugs ok to be stored in vacuum bags? As in the things you put duvets and towels in and suck the air out of so it compresses down? Worried about them compressing too much and not being right again. Has anyone done it? I know it's a silly question but rug bags are still very bulky and take up loads of room!

I have some that take 3 double duvets and are an assortment of scents between lavender and Jasmine :-) they were a pound shop jobby a while ago, just not done it and worried about it making my lovely heavyweights flat and naff! So just wondering if anyone had done it for a winter and the rugs came out alright?

Haha, am moving yards (again!) and getting organised as some stuff will have to come home - French didn't wear a rug at all last winter and hasn't worn anything more than 100g for the last 2 years so the heavy weight are being vacuumed away :p

Hate to dampen everyone's enthusiasm but I bought some of these vacuum bags a few years back when they were bummed up to something wonderful.......... and yes OK the air was sucked out of them OK, but within an hour they'd all gone back to their original shape!!

Total waste of money. Wouldn't buy them again. Perhaps other people have more luck with theirs and/or buy a different type. Can't remember what type I bought unfortunately. But it put me off them ever again!

We've used John Lewis ones for storing clothes in for ages and they haven't got bigger. Yours must've had a hole in :(
And jess, I almost want it to, I've got some lovely rugs that just don't get used :p deco time for a new 'OSS just so I can have something to tart up :p

Not quite the same but I store all our ski gear in these bags, they don't seem to suffer from being compressed for several months so I assume rugs would also be fine.

It's absolutely fine, mine have been stored in these bags for a year now and they have all been fine. The seal on mine wasn't brilliant so I just double bagged. Seems to do the trick.

I was literally just about to order some of these vacuum bags to try and organise our massive rug collection a bit, good to know they work well (most of the time!)

Def don't buy from Argos - we just did this for quilts and towels and all but one out of eight have let air back in. Does everyone reckon John Lewis work?

I've stored my rugs in vacuum bags for years and years!! Brilliant things they are - saves so much space!
Never had a problem when I've got the rugs out again.
