Storm Darragh will be hitting much of the UK tomorrow, and in our area at least it will be lasting until late Sunday! We have had heavy rain and high winds since yesterday and are expected to have gales nearing 70mph on Saturday, which must be a record for us.

Recently storm Bert took out most of my electric fencing, so I will be closing the horses on the yard tomorrow for their safety. The fields are saturated, so they're not inclined to go out anyway.

How is everyone else preparing? It's starting to feel a lot like the Winter of 2023!
 
Excellent timing. I have a medieval event this weekend where I'll be spending all of Saturday fencing outside in the rain and wind, plus we're supposed to have a load of gazebos / tents up Friday night to Sunday morning. And I have my three horses (50 miles away from the site) to deal with. Bloody weather.

And, since I believe Darragh is the Irish form of Darach, I consider it a terrible portent that this is effectively Storm Daemon for me :/

Stay safe! The tent situation might be interesting as I think the brunt of the storm is meant to hit on Friday evening 😬
 
My boys will go out tomorrow morning then will be in until Monday. Ridden one will be hacked sat and sun but we won't e joy it in that wind! The oldie will have a run and roll in the school. Doesn't look nice at all. Stay safe everyone.
 
Meant to be taking smallest to a PC lesson on Saturday, indoors but still not sure I fancy towing the big white box in high winds :( then again not sure instructor fancies teaching half a dozen newly off lead rein small children in gale force winds either!

I might bring the girls in depending on how bad it gets, it's a struggle with asthma and my one having to get fast fibre and no hay
 
It’s absolutely miserable here already I don’t want to do this until Sunday!! 😭 so much for “I’m keeping him in work this winter” I’m just trying to keep them from flying off with me in the wind / melting in the rain at the moment 🤦‍♀️
 
It's absolutely tipping in down in the 'Wet Midlands'. I'm curled up under the duvet with the other half and the dog watching Classic Emmerdale while tea is cooking.

I hope the TV signal doesn't go funny when I watch Netflix later.

I expect the barn is full of water with liveries frantically sweeping it out of the indoor yard.
 
The storm isn't even officially here yet, but we have had a huge amount of rain today and also yesterday. I think my fields are actually the worst I've ever seen them. Can't help but feel worried about flooding if this is to last another three consecutive days :(
 
I’ve got surface water building on my already drenched fields and it’s pouring again. A bit worried about the wind we are due on Sat as it’s due to be stronger than I think we’ve had before but on the plus, it may kickstart drying things out. I think if I don’t look for the positives it’s going to be a long winter
 
We have just had a couple of hours of heavy rain it’s not windy yet.
My horses are clipped right out and living out.
I will see what hits us I am lucky I can catch up at any time .
I think they may be in Saturday night looking at the forecast
 
It’s windy but not terrible here. My boys are out overnight as usual with raincoats on, tea and hay. Bailey does have a 100gm on as he’s on the skinny side but DP is quite happy. It’s more the weekend that concerns me. The wind forecast is awful and they may have to come in even if it’s to dry hooves out.
 
The wind and rain is picking up here.

I'm more concerned with Saturday night. My shift ends afer yard curfew so my horse usually stays out. Fingers crossed there won't be many trees down locally and none on the farm. We had 6 big oaks down in one of the major storms 2 years ago when the ground was similarly soaking.
 
Driving home from work was not fun!

Roads are all flooded and because these country roads aren't lit, you don't see the small lake in the road until you're in it. It was very unnerving and I was very glad to get home!

Supposed to stop by 9pm, and the wind will get lighter again overnight, so I've left mine out but with plenty of hay in the field shelter.

Suspect they'll have to come in tomorrow afternoon.
 
This weather is really stressing me out... It's really windy and hammering down here already, it's worse for us on Saturday and I am right on the coast, so in the direct line of fire... I don't have anywhere to bring them in to, they won't use the shelter as the wind is coming from an odd direction for us, so it's effectively a wind tunnel. That also means there's no escape from it anywhere else out there, due to the features of the land. They are in rugs, but look well cheesed off and I can't blame them. If I'd stayed on livery they would at least have stables to come in to for respite overnight. I feel so mean, and anxious about it all... I regret moving sometimes

Thankfully the tents have been abandoned as a very bad idea. We'll just have to move that side of things indoors. Now I just wait to see if I will be allowed to fence / anyone will join me on the field given the weather!
 
We had horrible weather last night but this morning the concrete is dry and all is still and quiet. I haven’t seen the yard as dry for a while, annoyingly I know it’s going to start here later today.
I think I’m going to have to keep in this weekend, or as in as I ever do. They will take turns on an open yard and turnout pen.
Even my retired horse on grass livery is coming in for the weekend!

Cat has just tried to bring a mouse in to play with so had to explain that we don't do indoor mouse chasing when the weather is bad....

We’ve just had a sleepless night due to a mouse tap dancing in the loft above our bedroom.
