Storm Darragh

It's getting up here now, definitely blowing from the west today. Electric fence has blown down so I've shut them out of there, also one came onto the yard last night with a piece of tape wrapped round one of her back legs 🙈
Youngsters have been ok and are pretty bombproof but the local shoot are out today and some shot landed on the barn roof and set them off, and ponies then knocked the salt lick holder off the fence. Nothing serious tho.
Hope everyone rides out the storm x

All fine here this morning.

Turned ponies out in the school first thing and headed off to work. Told husband to put them back in when the wind picked up again.

Looks like it'll be at its worst from around 2pm.
We've just come back into the house. The horses are out, well, eating hay in the shelter, which is by far the most comfortable place to be atm. My ears feel as if they've fallen off, they are so cold, the wind is getting stronger here, as the storm heads eastwards. There is rubbish blowing about as various wheelie-bins have fallen over, as we all predicted they would when they were first introduced here. We certainly haven't had it anywhere near as bad as some places but have had a squally sleety shower this afternoon, then a dry spell and it's just started raining again. At least we are so high up, flooding is very unlikely

Hopefull that should pop back over no trouble. We've had three go like that over the years, all with more damage than yours (that I can see), and we managed to drag them back over with straps and a tractor. Needless to say they're securely anchored down now.
apparently it has a hole in the back where it landed on a fence post but husband doesn’t think there is too much damage. He’s more concerned about damaging it when it is pulled over so hoping as there are two tractors at the yard they may be able to do it slowly. I’m cross with myself that I didn’t ask for it to be moved to the hedge line as it would have been more sheltered there. Waiting for the wind to die down before attempting anything.

Still blowing badly here in West Wales - most roads have trees down or flooding but ponies are quite happy in with plenty of hay oblivious to it all 🙈 no power since about 2am I think and no signal most of the day 💨

Well best laid plans and all...we have serious damage to our yard and buildings - it is no longer safe for them to be in. They are now turned out for the night as I fancy their chances better in the field. The storm is not letting up so all we can do is hope for the best at this point. I've never seen anything like this and it was frightening to go out in. I initially planned to leave them in for the duration, but that went out the window. I think they knew they were in danger as they bombed out as soon as I opened the gate. Another sleepless night for me I think :(

on Dartmoor we had a break around 11am and they all got out into a yard at least. Thankfully something told me to get them all back shut in before we went out to get feed etc.

Sat in the Landrover in the small market town eating lunch and remarking how quiet and calm it was down there, how easy townspeople had it and the landrover started swaying from side to side and the whole thing came back instantly just worse.
Now it is far worse that the middle of last night and so very much colder. At least we have power so far.

The only people who seem totally delighted with it all are the horses. All in, top doors shut and their happiness seems to be overflowing. Last night I couldn't sleep with the wind roaring, went to bed fully dressed and in my waterproof trousers ready to dash out quickly and everytime I checked the cameras they were lying down asleep. :D

Sorry asmp and Miss Millie, hope you can pull the shelter back over and your horses are OK Miss M.

Same, 12.30pm and the power went off for a while but I see our local pub and the big hotel and spa up the road have had to shut due to still having no power.

My neighbour just lost his roof again. It long repaired after storm Arwen. Now this. Although I don’t think it’s as bad as Arwen up here anyway. We had a gust of 103mph in Arwen.

Take care everyone. Good luck.

We are in yellow and it is windy and cold. I got Bert in and he has a massive hole in his rug. He doesn't have a spare LW so is his 100gm but it is now cold and windy so he should not be too hot in it.

We managed to get the horses in before the winds got bad as I don't like crossing the road with Bert in high winds. I was the only livery at catch in.

We are still going out for the yard xmas meal.

Absolutely awful here and we are only yellow zone so I dread to think what it’s like for those of you in the red areas!!

Neighbour rang to say our shelter roof was lifting on one side. It’s currently storing part of our winter supply of hay! So I went down the field and managed to stand on the gator and lift three bad bales that have got damp onto the roof as a temporary measure. No idea if it will hold but I’m home alone at the moment and so was the best I could do. Praying it holds until tomorrow/rains on the bales so they get heavier.

The horses were going crazy in their stables this afternoon from the noise and they wanted to go out but I daren’t risk it. They did all come out for a leg stretch. My box/field rest one was going crazy so ended up having to sedate him.

Dreading tomorrow as it’s meant to be like it all day again 😔

Mine are out now. Only 50 mph gusts here are dropping, they seem fine and prefer to be out, am I cruel?!
Mine is out too! I just upped her rug as I don’t fully trust amigo’s to stand up to this weather, but she has lots of natural shelter. Apparently it’s like this all day tomorrow here then dying off by 9pm tomorrow night 🤞🏼

Made it back to the yard via some diversions and praying my car was high enough to get through the flooding! Ponies went out for an hour, so at least stretched their legs! Home again and very grateful that power seems to be holding.

Weirdest thing is that my non-recycle waste seems to have been collected today! Bin was upright all night and day, but over tonight but contents nowhere to be seen! There should be some if it was just the wind. But I’m happy second time since June it’s been emptied 🤣, love the new bin schedule they brought in 🤣🙈.

this morning wasnt too bad in cornwall, lunch time onwards has been very rough. 80-90mph gusts. Some locals have lost stable roofs and power but we are ok atm. Mine are out, dont trust the roofs to stay on.
