Storm Darragh

Weather foul here yesterday. Turned out for a few hours. Went back down to get ponies in. A guy at the traffic lights stepped out in front of my car when light green and I was pulling away. I beeped my horn. He came to my car. Banged on window with fist. Opened my car door. Pulled me out. Took my car keys. Ripped them off the fobs. Tried to punch me. Another guy shouted at him. He marched over. Hit him. Crowd pulled him off. Wife screaming what are you doing?!! He left. I was crying. People got out of their cars. Someone ran after him. Got his number plate as he was now in the car park. Have three witnesses. Ones an ex police man. Photos. Video evidence too. I rung and reported to 101. Police called wanting me to drive to bury police station in the storm in the evening. I said I’m not. Trees are down etc. So waiting for interview. So.. rant over. But it was a shite day

That’s terrifying and shocking. A shite day is a bit of an understatement I should think. I would need to sit down with a large brandy. I hope he is prosecuted.

That is horrific! What the hell is wrong with some people, I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you. Hope you will be okay :(

Bloody hell!
I think everyone else has had a comparatively peaceful few days....
xx

It’s assault. So should be prosecuted. I’ve lost all my yard keys too. Plus he attacked the other guy. It was awful.

All because you hooted at him when he stepped into your way?

I do not understand how people behave like that. What on earth makes them think that it’s even a possibility?

Bl***y hell! Are you ok?

Sad reminder to keep car doors locked at all times. What a world we live in. ☹️

Weather was ok this morning, so we set off down the M1 to visit my parents.

The further south we got, the worse the conditions got. The spray was horrendous, but when we started hitting areas of standing water, I pulled into the services at Leicester, turned round and went home.

Saw 2 cars that had aqua planed and gone off the carriageway.

Astounded to see 2 people towing trailers! Hard enough to keep control of your vehicle, let alone a trailer.

Well after nearly 28 hours we have power restored along with tinterweb. It’s been a bit frustrating when you go to do something and realise you can’t because there’s no power but catching up on fb and on here, we escaped lightly considering we’re in a red zone. Little planned so just relaxed with a book all weekend enjoying the wafts of beef in red wine that’s been cooking on top of the log burner all day. Only damage I can see is to the plastic cover to the chicken run roof which was old and brittle and pieces of it were flying about. If anything has actually gone awol I probably won’t notice until I need it!

I'm in the red zone, feeling thankful to have power still, and have my ponies at home, as it seems most roads are blocked by debris/trees/downed lines.
Wind still gusting at about 70/80 mph so it's not over yet.
Barnstaple Hotel appears to have lost most of its roof.
Daughter is supposed to be having work Christmas ‘do’ there on Tuesday. Saw the pics and decided that wasn’t likely to happen.

Eek 😳! Have you been able to locate the missing corrugated sheets? It must have been lethal when they were flying around.
Some of them were on the ground just below (how it missed the caravans and one of my livery’s trailer, I don’t know!) and some had fallen inside the barn.
The sheets on the ground were scarily sharp, I would not have liked that to land on me …

I've been grateful for this thread over the weekend, it has kept me sane. It's still very windy here but should hopefully calm down overnight. I've spent the day tentatively cleaning up what I can and napping inbetween, although there are some huge damages which will need a proper look at when the weather is calm. We have several trees down as well as significant building damage. My electric fencing didn't stand a chance and is going to be fun to untangle. I keep trying to remind myself that at least the animals are okay, which is the main thing. We were also extremely fortunate not to lose power for more than 5 minutes.

It's sucky having to go back into the working week after such an awful weekend, I hope that everyone is as okay as they can be. So sorry to hear of your struggles this weekend and sad photos of damages :(

Just brought Arch in. Turns out my rug choice was poor and he's damp underneath. A friend was going to bring in for me last night but was unwell so the poor lad has had an uncomfortable time of it. Next time I'll opt for the heavier more reliable rug and worry less about cooking him.

Now stuffing himself with hay though.

@exracehorse that is terrible. I hope he is prosecuted, that's terrifying.

Is anyone else absolutely shattered I'm away off to bed I don't think I've had a decent sleep in days 😅 our power is going off and on again every 20mins which made for an awkward evening shower and we've given up on the TV.

So tired, definitely getting an early night tonight. Feel asleep on the sofa early after having a massive coffee!

We drove past this earlier and a crane was lifting the huge pieces of roof that have come off - I'd be impressed if they manage to sort it by Tuesday, such a shame as their busiest time of the year!

The wind has finally dropped here in W Sussex. We are in the yellow zone. Horses have been out all day as there is still plenty of grass but they were glad to come in tonight. Hoping we will all sleep better tonight as it seems pretty quiet compared to the last few days. No damage but a difficult weekend. Poo picking in 50 m.p.h this afternoon was horrible.
