Has anyone in the south east left there horses out tonight, I feel so bad, serenity is out unrugged as was very hot and muggy today and she didnt want to come in.
Shes in the top field aswell with hardly any shelter, storms really bad. Feel such a bad owner.
Anyone else done this??
Im worrying to much, but I can just imagine her standing all sad in the corner of her field whinning.

dont worry, im sure she wont mind, its natural for her. If shes a native or hardy breed i shouldnt worry, its not cold as such just wet. Good thing shes on high ground. If shes a light weight or not a good doer i would consider running up and bringing her in...Try not to put a rug on her as when you pull it off when it stops raining her body temp will have to adapt to the temperature again and she might catch a chill.

i live in wales so i think im ok!! although the horses have been standing out in the rain all day like a bunch of sorry statues.

I only worry when it starts thundering and lightening....am now thinking about bringing my lad in at night again now

MACCIMOO im in kent, yard in maidstone and im in chatham!!!
Really bad storms, worst for a long time I think with thunder and lighting.

helenhorse -- Shes a tb x warmblood but she is a good doer, I just hope it calms down soon and she doesn't do herself any damage out..

hadfos - I agree, shes coming in anytime its muggy now haha, Scares me to death that im going to get a phone call or go up tomorrow and shes done something.

We all think the worst I supose, seems to be slowing down. I hope.

Why are you worried? It's definately not cold out there!
All the horses on the stud live out rugless 24/7 in the summer, storms or no storms and don't do themselves any damage in bad weather. Its natural and normal, and I reckon some of them are chuffed to bits when it rains! Keeps the flies away

Its not cold here either,my lad dosnt mind summer storms...however i do mind the lightening and the threat of him being struck by it

,most of our thunder storms start at night when the air changes...if i can control him being in out of it then i will!!
That is why i worry...only this week in hho, another 4 hit by lightening

I understand why people worry, but people die every day crossing the road! Does this mean we should never cross a road? There are risks in everything, and whilst things do get hit by lightening it is VERY unlikely really. Thats 4 horses out of millions and whilst very tragic, it is unfortunately just the way of nature. Like i said, I'd be much more concerned about the stable block being hit!

mine are all out regardless. At PC rally today we had fork lightning and thunder and most of the ponies ended up stood under trees! Then when we got back to the yard the storm followed us and now we are at home the storm is here now to!

We have been having seriously big storms here most of the summer, day and night. Fortunately no lightening strikes around the house although I see one of our huge cottonwoods was hit at sometime.

My horses take absolutely no notice, when it is lit up as bright as day in the middle of the night I see them, heads down stuffing their faces. I am more worried about my dogs running off.
