Hope everyone's horses are ok tonight. I'm not going to sleep well for worrying about my two who live out. They are in a huge field with loads of shelter but I'm worried about falling trees knocking fences down.

It's definitely worse here in the south east than the storm a few weeks ago - out whole garden fence has come down (120ft long) so far.

It is a worry isn't it, the wind and rain just hasn't let up today and it's still howling with no sign of stopping. My lad is stabled now and seems very nervy when the wind is howling around, he was in the field earlier and seemed much more settled even though he was on his own, I think they sometimes cope better being out but I know what you mean about trees coming down and fencing. Our garden fence came down last time so I'm keeping a close eye on it at the moment ecspecially as our dog was in the garden at the time and tried to make a dash for it luckily I managed to rugby tackle her before she was off. Shes only popped out for a wee today even she doesn't want to be out in it for too long.

Leicestershire and we've got heavy rain and high winds. Also lucky not to have a horse to worry about. Not sure where the bins will be by tomorrow am. Hope all your horses are safe

I've just opened my window up a crack to let some fresh air in and the power of the wind flung open my door and then sucked my curtains out the window, it was like a scene out of a ghost movie!

It's been horrific all day, gale force winds, heavy rain, floods everywhere, trees down all over the place, and the lights keep flickering (doesn't help with the ghost film feeling!)

I'm trying not to worry about my horse, there's nothing I can do.

On another note- and I don't mean to worry others, but it's something to consider, I've just seen a photo on Facebook of a mare who was impaled by a fence post that got loose and was caught in a gust. Her hip was broken and a rib. It's on Brendon Stud's Facebook if anyone is interested. Might be worth checking how secure fencing is tomorrow, although I do think this was a complete fluke and is unlikely to be repeated.

I've got get up in 5hours but cant sleep with the wind outside. I have to sleep with window open for fresh air but I;m listening waiting for neighbours trampoline to come flying over fence and crash land in my garden. Not far off it now lol

Mine are in, I really wouldn't get any sleep knowing they were out!

It's bad here, I know this because my avid hunter of a cat is curled up in bed with me and not out on his nightly killing spree ;)

The heavy rain and wind are making the windows sound like they're going to cave in, and even though no windows are open the doors inside won't stay closed! Luckily the trampoline is weighed down with huge concrete blocks. I learned that lesson the hard way!

I'm so nervous! There's a big barn in my field (which they can't get to) which looks like it may go down at any moment :( It's due to be pulled down soon, I can't wait!!

It is absolutely wild outside in Wiltshire. I walked the dogs at 9 and I just walked the mile up the road to check on the girls. I had all four dogs off the lead on a 60mph road. It's long and straight and I kept checking for cars but not one passed us in the 50 minutes we were out. Normally I can't take them off the lead until I get past the houses as there are so many cats and mental dogs that owners let loose for night time wee's but nothing was out tonight. It was eerily weird. The wind was absolutely howling. I almost got taken out by something walking up the track to the girls, almost lost Squirrel, the JRT in a flood on the field walking to the girls field it was that deep. I expected Fly and Molly to be huddled up under the trees in the corner of the field but no...they were slap bang in the middle of the field, bums to the rain and filling their faces with grass. No idea how much hay they will have left in the morning. not from eating it, but from it being blown away. Hoping everyone elses shelters/stables are ok. I have to be honest, I am really glad the girls are out now I have seen them. They don't have a care in the world, yet used to get no rest when it was like this when they were stabled.

Hope you get to sleep soon MadBlackLab xx

Hope everyone is OK come the morning, it has just let up here but has been horrific, lashing rain covering the roads and really high winds. My 2 have choice of in or out, my yard is really sheltered but even so I am not looking forward to what I might find tomorrow. Field will be mostly underwater but as long as all else OK I don't care!

It has just stopped howling here. Literally just came on to edit my post as wrote it so recently but then saw your post. Tomorrow morning will indeed be interesting!

It's foul in Surrey - I'm very near to CDM, and living in a static caravan :eek3: House has been shaking a bit but lights are still on and all hatches firmly battened down!

Just waiting until its light so we can head up to the yard. It was horrendous here last night. Most of our garden fence is flattened so just hoping the field fences are still up and the horses are ok.

At 4am there was a gust so strong it felt like the house crouched and then all went quiet.
I have to go to work now but my OH has faithfully promised to check horses fort me as soon as it is light.
I hope everyone and everyone's is/are OK.

Evil couple of days in Devon. Gate blew off and 200 cows trashed the farm, the lawns and went on a manic spree down the main road at 2.30 am. Part of stable roof gave way so buckets catching water, patio doors blew in and 4' of carpet sodden and ruined, tiles off roof! Please, please stop raining and blowing a gale. Stay safe everyone.

the rain stopped at somepoint during the night but the winds are still quite high down here. walking into work at about 7am this morning was interesting to say the least! everytime i picked my leg up to take a step the wind would move it ! Not too worried about the horses as they are currently in a big concrete new build barn with lots of hay and comfy beds so if that goes anywhere then no where would be safe! Hope the damage isnt too bad for everyone else

I'm currently staying with family right down on Portland. Got other family doing the horses, and am biting nails waiting to hear how they are! Sure they are fine, just a bit weathered. They live out with hedges and trees for shelter. During the night I thought the windows here had blown in, it sounded so strong.

they 'think' it was caused by a fence post impaling her, so not confirmed by pretty gory wound poor mare

My share pony is stressed out and on edge. His best friend next door has been colicing all night, and has only just got back to "normal".

Field is a total mess, and the yard is a bit flooded

Yes sorry I should have mentioned that they weren't sure it was a fence post, but that was their best guess as to what caused it. Still worth checking these things though, especially electric fence posts as they are quite light. It's a horrible wound though and I hope she recovers.

It was grim here last night - and I had no power between 10pm and 6am. Went down to the yard early, and not only is the whole place still standing (we have a 250 year old timber framed barn, which is structurally unsound, and awaiting restoration in the New Year), but the horses were all peacefully grazing, in lovely sparkly clean rugs! They all looked considerably cleaner than they did yesterday - Alf was plastered in thick mud from nose to tail yesterday, and just look at him now!

It is nice here now, had to drive last night and it was unbelievably bad! OH picked up daughter from work in the 4x4 as her little car wouldn't have coped. This morning roads are still shut.
