not likely; I couldn't bear to see all those poor horses, ponies and donky's being treated like dirt arriving squashed up in horrid meat wagons. Oh and of course, what about watching horses being trotted up and down to the road to point of exhaustion?
I went last October to see what went on and was frankly appalled. Have you been before dun4? I am amazed that events like this still take place in a so called 'civilised society'.
A friend went to the Jerez horse fair last week in Spain, she said it was emotionally beautifully, a stunning display of horse and rider, the horses were treated like kings. She had a day of dressage demos and fantastic horsemanship for only 5 euros in the sunshine! Little chance of something like that happening in the UK!
I only pray that all those poor horses there today can go to a decent, loving new home and not the meat market.
Yes I did, but only went for an hour as it poured it down! Got absolutely soaked. There weren't that many horses TBTH, I really liked 2 though, very nice horses. Didn't see any mistreated or in poor condition this year.
Thats a bit harsh.
Yes I have been to horse fairs and yes some idiots do ruin the fairs for all involved. But alot of these horses are owned and bred by people that have owned them for generation after generation. As for them going to the meat man, have you any idea what some of these horses are sold for???
There is just as much cruelty going on in all aspect of the horse world, local shows, dressage yards, race yards (how much is a failed race horse worth?) To point the finger at the fairs shows alot of ignorence towards the horse industry in general.
I have never been but would like to go, I was going to go up with my mate but I was skint.
My mates brother sold his coloured trotter for 9K up there last year!!
Yes I went today with my friend and I have to say I was pleasantly suprised by the condition of the horses. There were a couple that looked poor but not cruelty cases by any means. There was a strong police and rspca presence and I overhead them asking for some puppies to be given a blanket to lie on. There were some absolutely stunning coloured horses that were generating a lot of interest but I don't know what they went for.
Nope didn't go as it was pooring down and I'm not sure I wouldn'tfind it too upsetting! Stow fair always causes us some worrying times as we're literally 5 mins down the road, and (not meaning to sound snobby but,) all the tack has been coming home!
Yep I went - first time for me, been to Andoversford before but never 'proper' Stow! Was pleasantly surprised by the general good condition of the horses and ponies there - quite a few were scouring quite badly, but there were certainly no obvious cruelty cases, no 'meat wagons' to speak of, and no trotting endlessly up and down to 'show them off!'
What got to me were the dogs
There was a little elderly Westie in a cage who was frantically crying and scraping around - I take it she was for sale - and a little further up there were some men selling some Westie-looking puppies. I doubt they were more than 4 weeks old, and I would take it that the older Westie was probably Mum
The guys told us they were KC registered
God, it was wet!
And whoever on here said that the population of Stow Fair is divided into those wearing wellies, and those in stilettos, was absolutely spot on....
