Does anyone know if the Stow Fair is the sale where only dealers/travellers/gypsies etc usually attend? I'd like to go on May 15th and have a look but I have a feeling it's not like it used to be at Andoversford with a sale ring, but rather buying and selling in the old traditional way of slapping hands and producing hundreds in used notes, with no sale ring as such.

I don't particularly want to go and get frit out of my life - I'd stand out like a sore thumb if there aren't what I call general members of the public there!

I wouldn't have known it was on, only I spotted the usual 'public notice warning' (in H&H) directed at one or two regulars who parked their vans illegally, back in 1996!

It is open to anybody, there isn't really a formal sale ring to view horses, they get tried ridden and trotting in the field, along the local roads, through crowds

The day is quite an experience.

You'll be one among hundreds. You get impromptu rings of folk bidding on horses/ponies as they come off lorries, most are tied to lorries and if you ar interested you go make an offer. Pretty much everything there is for sale, horses, ponies, dogs, fowl, small animals, carts, bric-a-brac, tack, vehicles. As well as half a field of stalls selling mind boggling stuff.

i`m going.
i used to go to andoversford too, that had a proper auction for horses, tack and machinery, also there were all the mobile tack shops too.
the stow one is like it but without the above.
all the shops and pubs in stow shut and there is always a big q for the boggles.
it has occured to me that some horses are not for sale but taken to be showed off.you will prob need wellies but some ladies there like to wear high-heels,lol.
