Would they put you off?

I have recently viewed a horse and she is lovely, ticks every box. I took my RI along for the second viewing and she mentioned that she had straight hocks and croupe high.

Would this put you off, and what are the implications?

Thank you

They say horses with straight hocks are more at risk of suspensory problems.... I only know that as I have a horse with straight hocks that is written off for suspensory issues.

I think in this situation I would be inclined to listen to your riding instructor.

Yes! Most definately; straight hocks have less articulation meaning the horse is not able to reach under the body with its hind legs sufficiently (these are the propulsive engine of the horse). Means the horse is not going to be as athletic as it should be for dressage, jumping, whatever. Croup high also means the horse is more likely to be on the forehand and both together makes schooling for any athletic endeavour extra difficult.

It is worth considering what you want to do with the horse. My sons pony has upright hocks and moves in a way that wont win a dressage test but he jumps over 4 feet and has qualified trailblazers, dengies and crickands in the last two weeks(he is 13hh) but we will keep him forever whatever. good luck with whatver you decide

I would like to do a bit of everything really, mainly jumping. I hadn't personally noticed but then I don't have a good eye for confirmation.

If your plans are to keep and enjoy the horse into old age I think you should continue your search and look at others.

Would anyone mind casting an eye over the ad and giving me there opinion, I really like this horse but I don't want to buy if she is going to possibly have issues.
