am going to join BE in August/September time, to do one or two at the end of the season, when all PC eventing has finished.
I have been and will carry on doing Intermediate pony club eventing, which is 3"3ft. We have gone clear xcountry 2 out of 3 times, the 3rd being a rider error. she also has never got time penalties (is an optimum time, like BE i believe?). Am planning on doing about 5 more throughout the season at this height, as well as area Int.

So, if i join BE, should i do a couple of Intros first? or should i go straight to Pre novice? She jumps much better over bigger tracks, but BE is going to be very new to both of us so was wondering if it is best to do a small track to get us used to it?

I would say you are more than capable of going straight in at PN but I would do at least one Intro just for your first one as it is a big atmosphere and alot to take in and remember at 1st and wont be so much added pressure etc if the jumps are smaller/easier and the test is easier. Have fun

Bee went straight to PN when she was 14, however that was when you had to be accredited and the JRN co ordinator said Intro would not be a challenge for her.

Are you over 16. If not you will have to do some Intros first unless you have 4 (I think) clears at PC Intermediate logged in you log book.

Our PC area qualifier was at West Wilts last year and they used the intro course for PC Novice Challenge, the PN course for Imtermediate and the Novice course for the open, I know the course was the same as I did the PN there the week before, so you are more than capable of doing PN, but as has been said previously maybe one intro at the start to familierise yourself or better still go and groom for someone at a BE competiton or just go and watch for the day so you get to see how things work and walk both the intro and PN course while you are there, then im sure you will find the decision easy.

Think young people have to get 2 clears XC at intro level before moving up to PN?

Best thing to do is find out if you can practice round any XC courses which have a PN track. That was you can practice round a PN course and see how you go. I would say that BE is a bit more technical than unaffiliated and also I found the time tougher - having never had time penalties at unaffiliated but did get a few in PN to begin with.

If you've been doing PC things at around the 3'3 i'm sure you'll be fine going in at PN. I did with my horse who'd only done things at about 2'9 and he was fine as long as you've schooled/sj'd a bit bigger no prob!

We never find much difference between intro and pre novice but think intros are easier to get placed in.You need a really good dressage mark as a lot go double clear as they are quite straightforward .You will be fine in pre novice

re Log Books

Get a log book from PC HQ only £2 and then send to all event sec where you have gone clear xc and then you can go straight to Pre N

thanks everyone,
yeah we already have a log book, have had the 2 intermediates "logged".

thats interesting carthorse, i would have thought intros where harder to get placed in as more people go double clear?
