Strained sacrilliac joint? can i have bad and good stories

Well kyra got diagnosed with her strained sacrialliac joint about 2 months ago now had all her shockwave treatment, when she was last checked after her first treatment vet was very happy and said she is now actually about 95% sound!! had the second treatment up there, and now at home is doing 20 minutes 4 times a week have had to build it up but two days walking over poles, and the other two just walking round in circles, she is lame again now though

vet wants us to carry on doing what we are doing each day so she is then built up a bit, but she just isnt enjoying her work like she used to, vet is out on friday so will see what he says, he said she should be trotting and walking in a straight line sound by now, and if she is not better within 6 months then she wont be able to come back into full work again

we are also asking her to go back and that is getting easier now, however she wont go in a straight line but is still scuffling back, but i suppose that is to be exspected?
Anyway was just hoping that people with good and bad stories can you just tell me i dont know why i am asking i just would like some hope that maybe she might get better

Hi, sorry to hear about Kyra. Corroy is lame too

Anyways, I can help you with SI. Corroy was diagnosed with it about 8 years ago and it's never been a problem since. Which vets are you dealing with? Has she had physio?

, so cant get any better, well she had 4 lots of pysio before she was diagnosed we will see what the vet says as to whether we will get the pysio out again, but at the minute it is just building her back up again, And aww sorry to hear that do you know what she has done? seems like a never ending road at the moment

Which Physio do you use? You're right, it will take time to build her back up, but I found with a good Physio and lots of slow work, making sure they are working correctly does help. Have no idea what she's done.

She fixed Corroy for me. She's being x-rayed on Friday

Have a look in vet section - there are loads of posts in there about SI that are very useful. I have one with a chronic strain and it is all about management and a good chiro (I recommend McTimony).

You wanted good and bad - this is both - but the good bit is how it ended.

QH strained SI. Vet advised the usual routine of box rest and hand walking et al. Still not good after 12 weeks and much expense including all the usual physio et al.

Put horse on a track system (Paddock Paradise UK style). Horse sound within 2 weeks and now is running and jumping like Bambi only better.

Have posted replies on this subject several times. My story is mainly positive - my horse took about a year to get back to competition fitness so it does take a long time (He was 10 when 1st diagnosed now 14). Generally it needs constant management after that. However I have done up to unaff elementary successfully and do small hunter trials, sponsored rides, fast hack. Regular consistent work (no long holidays) , regular physio and careful management. Had steroids (best effect) and shock wave on close spinal processes (least effective) again this year after 3 years. My physio says its basically now a mechanical weakness with no apparent pain so we just carry on. I actually think loads of horses have this type of iinjury to a greater or lesser degree and most people don't even notice it! Am just forking out for a made to measure dressage saddle and hope to affiliate soon so fingers crossed no set backs! Also hope to do mini one day event next year if Im brave enough
