Strange changes in ponies hoof??? can anyone help!!

Hi everyone,where do i start?? daughters pony has strange things happening to her front right hoof,6wks ago when she was last shod it appeared 3 days after that her foot was rocking when landing almost toe first,i called my farrier and he came straight out and it was the nails that were sitting proud!! same size nails used as usual and other front foot not a problem!! farrier put smaller nails in and was ok,but last 2wks no lameness but when ridden on hard ground didnt feel quite right as though uneven,farrier has been today and he has advised us to use a water based hoof dressing as the side of the hoof is brittle and crumbley,he cant understand why she has suddenly gone like this!! as we have had a lot of rain and mud!! he has just put flat shoes on with no toe clip or side clips which she would normally have and there is a slight crack appeared at the bottom of the toe,i have noticed that she has started to trip occasionally when being led from the field but not when ridden, i am starting to worry now as such sudden strange changes!!
thanks to anyone that could maybe shed some light....
 
Have to be honest and say I would be taking her off the grass as a precaution for lami :o better safe than sorry.

Tripping can be linked to toes being too long.

And not surprised wall is brittle if she has had several sets of nails in.

Unfortunatley hoof strength comes from diet - not dressings too - though you could stand her in water if the feet are dehydrated.
 
thankyou for that,farrier has recommended hosing feet daily and she only had 2 sets of nails in,and her diet hasny changed in the last 7years?? :confused:
 
I would get some one who knows to see if she has a pulse.

if not get the vet it could be lami.


Take it from me who didn't suspect anything last years or this


now 4 months on my mare is still on box rest laminitis bit of founder and rotation , better be safe than sorry . one vet bill to check is better than £2500 vet bills late and they haven't stopped:(

this!! If you treat as lami and get vet in then at worst you have caught it early and she will never be troubled again. and this years weather is playing havoc with grass sugar levels. I got caught by this but hopefully nipped in the bud.

It will do no harm and might prevent a disaster for the pony - def play safe!.
