Apologies if it is an HHO'er but the Olympic torch procession came through our village today, lots of people out, no parking cones in road, bunting, flags, children, prams etc and someone hacks a horse down the road.....okay was about 30 minutes before torch procession arrived but road (quite a busy one at the best of times) was full of the above mentioned people and items and horse whilst holding it together was on his toes and quite prancy for want of a better word.

Seemed a strange day and time of day to decide to hack along there with so many people and small children about. Have never seen the horse or person before and yes, no hi viz unlike the police motorbike riders who were plastered in it.

I wouldn't have a clue when and if the Olympic torch is around ours :o

I wouldn't have a clue either. I once went on a hack, could hear a big racket round the corner, but as there is a park there with frequent stuff on thought nothing of it. Discovered it was actually a race for life. Did turn back but didn't know till I met them. Have to say too, if it was 30 mins before & I wasn't going to be disrupting anyone or causing a problem, I'd see it as a great bombproofing exercise.

I wouldn't know where the torch was passing either, I bet the rider was really embarrassed.
Generally, I wouldn't choose to ride through a busy event, or even during the rush hour/school run simply because it inconveniences other road users.

Did once find myself riding my new horse through the middle of a triathalon with flags, runner and bikes whizzing allaround us. Definitely wasn't intentional on my part. Horse was a star though.

Same here :o

If the torch is passing near you you won't be able to miss it, it has been in the local newspapers/radio for weeks telling you the route it is passing.

Yes I would. I dont get a local paper, or listen to the local news. No idea if and when the torch is passing here as I dont care enough to find out.

I also never read local newspapers or listen to local radio, so I wouldn't have a clue - although I do have an interest in it, so I will be looking into when & where it is local to me ;)

Some one rode through the rememberance day thing in our village once......

As for the torch I wouldnt have remembered it was going through, but if I had I would have gone down after, never to miss a bombproofing session :p.

Trust me I would. I know one of my friends is carrying one at some point, other than that, don't know anything more than Radio 1 saying something about it this morning and that's not very local ;)

The torch passes this way today, right past the office. Typically it is going through both Cheltenham and Gloucester during the rush hour, causing total traffic carnage.

Still, it gets me out of work early as the office is being closed so I am going well away from it.

I admit I actually rode past a church on remberance day. I completly forgot (I know it's bad, but it was a very stressful week for me) I didn't realise til I heard the church bells and then thought "oh no!" Some of the people gave me a dirty look, but others did give me a smile. I tried not to make a scence and just rode past as quietly as I could and then took another route home.
