Strange hoof abcess/Bruise???

Hey wrote on here few days ago my boy came in very lame (broken leg lame) got vet said it was abcess polticed it for 2days,farrier came out reaplied shoe n said he couldent find anything could b deep or i could of got it fast so carried on as normal with him rode 5times was fine normal.brought back in sunday nite n he was broken leg lame again with heat n pulse in hoof so politiced it again last nite not alot came out only sweat,brought him back in tonight hes nearly sound ?????
i must add the hoof has a constant crack in it that runs al the way up mega old birewire injury neva caused any probs the whole time i have had him!the ground is really hard at the min n dnt know if he really feels things in that hoof??or the abcees is deep or its somthing eles???if any1 has had the same problem would b great to hear from you

This happened to a horse on my old yard. I think some gravel or dirt had gotten into a crack that was all the way up to the coronet and had caused seedy toe/white line disease - dont panic!! Just a suggestion, maybe ask your farrier, its sortable just need to cut away the nasty stuff and then keep it clean and treated and it ususally clears up just fine!

This horse was very lame but is coming on fine now!

It'sn to uncommon for them to go foot-falling-off lame with an abscess, come sound when it makes itself more space, and go lame again days or even weeks later when it runs out of space again. Check with your farrier to see if he can find the sore spot and open it up.

Yep, I'd say he's got gravel too, it travels stops, travels stops etc, can come out on the coronet, get farrier out when he gets next flare up, perhaps some bute/no bute to ease his pain too, that's what I would do.

The problem is that if you give painkillers it will make the possible ascess harder to track down.

With my mare, I thought that she had an abscess and stabled her overnight with a poultice. The Farrier arrived the next morning and I had a sound horse and a clean poultice, she had been hopping lame the day before! So she went back out and started to go lame again about 4 hours later. Called the Farrier, left her out till he arrived. This time he easily identified the painful area with the hoof testers and found the abscess.
