Strange hop

My 5 yr old gelding does a strange hop in trot which throws me onto the opposite diagonal. I have had back/teeth/vet check so I believe it is a balance issue.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Any advice on helping him gain his balance?

I hate to be the one who mentions this but has your vet checked whether he is a 'wobbler'. An inability to maintain a rhythem in trot was the first sign I had from my horse that something was wrong. I'm sure it may just be a balance problem but I would just run it by your vet to be on the safe side.

My old hunter started doing this after he did a tendon and came back into work and he had spavin as well as arthritis in his fetlocks. Sorry if that doesn't sound very positive!! It felt like a bunny hop behind.

Oh god no I haven't. What were the other symptoms.

My horse did this - turned out to arthritis in the hock. I would have a lameness work up done.

He is not at all lame and has passed five stage vetting recently. He doesn't do it in the field
