(coming back to me tomorrow)
Been having issues. They think its related to her cycle.

Lastest issue
Few days of marishness
Monday not happy with farrier.
Thretening to kick etc (used to be fine)
Wednesday evening. Won't eat, keeps lying down getting up, huffing and puffing, like she's giving birth.
Hour later fine, eating as normal.
Next day happy self again.

Vet spoken to, scan booked.
Bloods taken in August for other issue show nothing unusual.

That's what it sounds like.
And what loaners suspected.
But it went so quickly.
They spoke to vets for advice when she was laying down but there didn't have any ideas either!
 
Sounds like worms (hopefully she was also done for encysted redworms in winter) or colic as you say but a stab in the dark , ulcers ?? if she is tender in tum and kicking out and unsettled etc :confused:
 
Yes treated with Pramox.
The issues which seem to be related to her cycle have been on going for a few months.

The loaners wondered if it could have been ovulation.
Moody building up to it.
Extreme behavior then happy self again.
 
Yes thats what we are suspecting with the behavior the last few months.
The strange behavior the other day seems to point to it too.

A situtation that sometimes occurs when a mare is in heat is painful ovulation. During the second half of the heat period, a mare may have pain around a large follicle, perhaps from spasm or stretching of the tiny muscle fibers. Pain may last until ovulation takes place, and the mare will act colicky until the pain passes. A painkilling drug may be helpful to get her through the episode. Some mares experience back pain (and react adversely when being saddled and ridden) or even lameness, due to painful ovaries.
