Strange lump appeared - Advice

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I noticed on Sunday a lump has appeared on the inside hind leg on the inside just by Kates hock.

It is pretty solid. There was no prior swelling, just seems to have come up over night, but as it is already a solid swelling, I have no idea what it could be. I thought at first splint, but it seems too high and as this is an overnight thing unlikely

Run her up monday night and she is perfectly sound , it is not causing her any pain or discomfort when I touch it or move her leg

Anyone else experienced anything like this?

I will try a cold compresses to see if it reduces the swelling, I am just worried as she is close behind it may affect her.

No, I do appreciate that, but bog spavins are further towards the inside of the hock and can be poked as they are fluid-filled. I just said the lump is where a bone spavin would show. And, of course the horse would likely exhibit lameness...

Have you checked for any puncture to it i.e. insect bite or she may possibly have caught herself with her hoof whilst laying down or playing around in the field.

My mare gets lumps that fill if she gets bitten as she is allergic to insect bites. She had a lump that appeared on the inside of her front leg the size of an egg it turned out to be an infected insect bite. This too was a solid swelling I thought she had been kicked but she was not lame on it.

There are 100s of simple things it could be before going straight to Defcon 1. Investigate first cold hose it and keep and eye on it for a couple of days to see if it gets bigger or goes down.

I would give the horse a Danalon as that has anti-inflamatory properties too just in case it is a trauma injury.
