One of my horses has a strange lump on his back... he has had it for quite a while now and it appears to have got slightly bigger. It is about in the middle of his back and it is a part which sits under the saddle. His saddle and back have both been checked recently and he doesn't seem to be in any pain.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could have caused this/how I can get rid of it?

How big is it and is it quite raised or fairly flat? My daughter's NF pony had a fairly flat lump on her back to the right of her spine, but as it wasn't appearing to cause any pain (I can poke & prod it quite hard without reaction!!) and is gradually getting smaller I waited until vaccs were due to ask the vet. She had a good look and thinks it is probably a haematoma. Goodness knows how she got one there though!!

small hard lumps, mirror images on each side under saddle, cant for the life of me remember the name vet gave them but basically just leave alone. didnt cause any pain, no heat, no problem poking proding or lifting to make sure they were just in the skin. Still there two years later but have got smaller and smaller.

best have your vet take a look just in case, might expect more than one if it was a warble problem, look out for it popping out of the lump, don't squeeze too hard just in case it is!
