Quite a large lump has developed on my 3yo's belly overnight. He only moved to this yard on Saturday so I was thinking it could possibly be an allergic reaction. It causes him no pain as far as we can tell and he's completely fine in himself. We're keeping a close eye on it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Looks like somekind of haematoma. Maybe he has banged himself in the stable ior kicked in the field?? The damage could be higher up but the fluid just drains to the lowest point which is under his belly.

If its just a bang it should go down in time but sometimes they need draining. wouldnt worry too much though

Agree with Mrs S - looks like a haemotoma which is just a glorified bruise with a collection of leaked blood sitting in a puddle under the skin. It should slowly be re-absorbed by the body. Some whoppers have to be drained. The only other thing I would query since ned is a youngster is whether he has ever had any problems with a hernia?

Hi.. My gelding and our mare got exactly the same kind of lump on their tummys just the other week.. I put it down to a fly bite.. I washed it with hibiscrub twice a day and put udder cream on it to stop anything else landing on it and biting it and its went away.. if the lump on my guys had of got bigger i would have got the vet but i was pretty certain it was a bite.. I wouldnt worry unless it gets bigger.. It did take about a week for my guys lumps to go away completely tho..
