Very occasional lameness in near hind - always on left rein in circle - looks as if the stifle locks for a few strides in transitions but then carries on. Also will sometimes just stop and put in massive buck as though trying to release something and then carry on - this is usually when on the right rein on a circle! Is having treatment for asymmetrical pelvis and doing well - left hand side lower - not being ridden but working on long reins and pessoa. Could these be connected? Not lame at any other time. Could it be stifle locking (upward fixation of patella)? Bone cyst? Any ideas?

I had a similar problem last year with my Shire, not locking stifle but his left hip was dropping alot more then his right. Chiro did what she could but referred to vet. Our equine vets came out and did nerve blocks, but gave him too much sedative so he couldnt be trotted up! They wanted him in surgery for a couple of days for lameness work up and x-rays, they suggested it could be spavin in the top part of the hock

I have turned him away for 6 months and atm is sound.

Sorry I cant give any helpful suggestions, but hope you sort ned out soon.

My lad has an asymetrical pelvis and would also suddenly buck and sometimes refuse to go forwards. This went on for some time and then he went lame on it completely. He is much improved now and vet came today and he is 2/10th lame on it.

Has had nerve blocks and it is his sacroiliac area, the vet says it is SI. She feels it is probably a ligament and the only thing I can do is rest him

She suggested removing his back shoes as they can cope much better without shoes with this type of injury.

He is going back in for blocks etc with a rider on board as it is more obvious when he has a rider on.

The plan is to turn him out for 6 months but the vet says there are lots of showjumpers/eventers who have had SI and are now back to competing again.

Hopefully it won't be the case with your horse but it does sound very similar to my horse's symptoms.

Keep us posted

My boy had very similar symptoms and only ever lame on the lunge. He been diagnosed with bone spavin in both hocks. Dont know if that helps you but i was initially told it was sacroilliac (SI) but with several nerve blocks and xrays it was proved to be his hocks. Incidentally his pelvis is also asymmectical too, like yours. Good luck and hope you get to the bottom of it.
