In all my years I've never seen this and wondered if anyone else had

When the horse comes in to the stable or during work (hacking in walk on the buckle atm) he gets a patch of cold sweat approx 4" square on his neck - half way up - along his crest, under his mane

He's only just arrived on the yard, been in the field since the beginning of April and is just starting back in work.

Doesn't sweat anywhere else or when he's in the field.

Any bright ideas? Seems odd to me.

There was a post from someone whose horse had the same. I can't remember exactly what the outcome was, but I am pretty sure it was some sort of mineral deficiency. I am sure it was on this forum. I will try and have a search.

Thanks yasandcrystal - sounds interesting. I've got the mctimoney chiro coming on Wednesday so she'll check that side of it. I find it very strange tho that it appears when he's standing apparantly peacefully in the stable.

Andy had a weird one that started in summer 2011 and started going towards the end of last summer. It never came back though.

You can just about see it in this photo where the sun bleached it:

The vet said it was most likely something to do with nerves and nothing to worry about unless it seems to be causing pain or discomfort, physio also thought it was nothing to worry about.

resurrecting thread (sorry) That last photo is very useful. My horse has similar, but a much smaller patch. He's the same colour and his has bleached in the same way.
