Hi, I've got a three year old and had him for a few months now. When hes in he got slightly swollen back legs, which I think was too much oil, after enquiring with the feed companies and takin him off Alfa Oil and putting him on good doer, and this has improved. however, just his back legs, lower down he gets like what only can be described as curly/crimped hair? Hes not got feathers, just fairly fluffy legs? his coat sometimes does when he gets hot in places. Is it his age? Will he grow out of it?? mmmm??

i have seen this on a couple of horses at a show and at the time thought maybe the travel boots or bandages where put on too tight, it looks strange, is it a result of something going on in the leg????

mmmm? Not sure, its really odd? If we wash them it makes them more curly? really odd, i'm debatin on clipping them to see if it grows back curly??!!

not necessarily bandages too tight - just bandaging can cause it. my horse was on box rest last year and bandaged 24/7 and he got really curly legs. i'm a vet so can guarentee my bandages were not too tight - it's just one of those things that can happen if they're bandaged all the time. it can be caused by them being too tight, but not always.

my mare is the same after bandaging not to tight i can assure you she was having probs with swelling , when they started looking that way i stopped the bandageing and they carried on and got worse i am hopeing they will return to normal in the spring when she sheds old coat ,her back ones once did it and they returned to normal after spring so fingers crossed

i did consider that with my old boy, but he has no other signs and all the curliness has completely gone now he's shed his coat and I'm not bandaging anymore as he's out 24/7.
