A horse at the yard has suddenly started showing strange behaviour. He's always been quite argumentative and OTT if a new horse comes into the field but usually comes off second best in a scrap so doesn't go looking for trouble at any other time. Recently he's started doing strange things - always early in the morning, often after just getting up from lying down. Twice he's gone over to one of the others and bitten them, nastily, with no provocation. One of them was still lying down, he grabbed his top lip and wouldn't let go. This morning, he got his willy out and was slapping it against his tummy. When he did this, two of the other horses got theirs out too but didn't react in any other way, just carried on grazing. I could write one off as a coincidence but two seemed to be too much of one! They're a very settled herd, my boy was the latest addition 2 years ago but they did all move yards together last September so this is our first summer at the new yard. There is a field of mares (at the old yard, the whole place was geldings only) but they're right at the other side of the yard. Could there be something in the air/water/grass there or could it be something more serious?
