Hi
My horse has a strange swelling by his flank that he is not happy about being touched. This has appeared over the last couple of days since my loaner took him on a 5 1/2 hour beach hack without my knowledge. It almost feels like his intestines. He is not showing any other signs of discomfort other than not letting you near it,pick out back feet or tack him upE4DD3919-DF00-44A9-B09B-3B5A4CD74BAD.jpeg6954D5CE-9144-4031-A02F-2DDF25247D2D.jpeg

That’s the only other one,he is slightly tucked up as well
That’s what I was wondering. Chances are that’s what you’re seeing. If he’s not colicking then I can’t think it’s anything more than an unfit horse having been made to do too much.

But as ever, if concerned- speak to your vet.

Won't let you touch it. Won't let you pick out his feet. After a level of exercise he wasn't used to.

I'm afraid that "tucked up" for me does not explain not being able to touch him or get him to lift his hind feet.

A visit from the vet is probably due I'm afraid, but by giving him bute before the vet has seen him they may now have some difficulty getting a proper diagnosis.

How is he moving?

That looks like it could be a swollen muscle which could possibly happen being hacked on a beach for 5.5 hours.

He could have just pulled it badly as constantly walking in wet sand is hard work for them.

I would still get the vet or at least ring them and send a picture to get an opinion.

I hope you gave the sharer a bloody mouthful and sacked them off.
