A few months back, my boy had a worrying litle petit pois sized lump on his nether regions..could get fingers under it, decided it was a scratch/prick running in long grass after bunnies, got it checked out anyway, vet said nothing to worry about seemed like an infected graze/nic or possibly a tick nibble. lump went. while later one appeared on back an inch off his spine vertically you could draw a line down and it was kind of above his last rib right hand side. This again i could get fingers under, fractionally bigger than last, but soon filled with pus.manuka honeyed it & it eventually dissappeared. I thought it may have been a prick from a blackthorn/hawthorn/sloe prickly bush or perhaps barbed wire in hedge-flipping bunnies trying to trap him!Fur ever so slightly tinged again this eve so i just checked as I found yet another(no 3) on his r/h hind leg/thigh.this one had a crusty long hard bit which i pulled off, no pus(yet) but looks like may have been .his fur is quite dense tho no tangles as I do groom him, but I struggled to find it seconds later, luckily he's white so easy to search.Going to put manuka on & check again in morning. So I had a closer look again on the one on his back & picked a bit..the scurfy dot old scab came away & underneath is a whitey black bit, that almost looks like a tick segment or splinter-tried negotiating it out, he's being a saint allowing me, but to no avail. Tried tweezers even & its like its just not coming-its hard & the surrounds are red now but it simply is NOT budging..rather like a tick would. More manuka & will try again in morning.Could this be the offending item or something else or simply a funny type of scab or the tick(if it was ever one) He's fine in himself, but you know how it is, given the chance to panic/worry..anyone had anything similar? Chances are it could well be that he had 3 separate pricks & I'm just worrying..embarrasingly I groom him daily & have still missed these unless I've specifically looked. Is this anything I should be worrying over ...I'm expecting springer people will be the most experienced in this one for some reason!:D

I would try an old fashioned poultice to see if you can draw whatever it is.....mag sulphate paste is good for this if you have any.

If no joy, then would reassess and maybe vet to determine nature of lump.

Hi, thank you for replying!..I got some Manuka honey on the stubborn one last night before bed & this morning, it came away beautifully(well as beautifully as a nasty thing can) when i rubbed my finger over it, I am kind of hoping, that what ever it was that was causing it, was that bit.. tho its hard to say. Have dressed & sterilised it & the other & will be watching both very closely. I'm glad the horrid bit came off anyway & it seems totally flat now with a dry little hole ...which i'm hoping is very promising...fingers crossed:)

What age is the dog? Older dogs get lumpy, my 9 year old has a few. It may well be just a reaction to thorns. Just carry on doing what you're doing, sounds fab.

Hi CT..he's only just 3 so still a baby! they are more like lumps that are or turn into abcess type things/spots full of pus..hoping its just thorns as you say..they all seem to be trying to give me something different to worry about at the mo!

Think about where you're running him. I've had to stop using the local woods as two of mine appear to be allergic to something there. Blooming pain, frankly, but when one comes up in tens of these, I had to cave :(

euuugh ouch poor dog! I was chewing a date when I read your post!:D Its mainly at the stables & surrounding land, which could be a bit awkward as he checks the sheep with me twice a day as well as doing most of his free running. The only times hes off is on our land as I know he can't get away. The culprit I suspect is the hedge between the top field with the school & the side hill fields( bunny escape route) not seen any bunnies for a while, and very much hoping it was only a scratch from one of the thorn bushes(poss black thorn as I said) tho as the foliage has died back & the leaf fall has left things bare,he's not seen any to chase so hasn't gone thru the hedge. Walk wise apart from this, he can't go anywhere without me following so will simply keep my eyes open..tho nothing to say it wasn't an allergy to anything in the yucky leaf mulch or some random fungus lurking somewhere:eek: How long did these take to clear up on yours?

When his came to a head ( mid investigative poke:eek:) it came out like a solid squidgey bit of feta cheese..I have to say with all this & horse misbehaving abcess wise, I'm getting incredibly good at accidentally sticking ungloved fingers into :eek:ly disgusting pus filled yuckness:-( may i ask what the powder was or is it that wound powder we all used to have in our horsey first aid boxes?
