Strange things your horse likes to eat

I was planning some treats today and it suddenly occurred to me that my horse is nuts.

Lass will literally beg for anything marmite related. She gets all silly and foal-like and twists her next and whickers. She also like garlic. She HATES mints and can't see the point in apples... Boring...

My old boy adored watermelon. If you put a whole one in the field, he'd paw at it, break it open and then basically try to stick his whole face in it, bathing in juice. Unfortunately, he was a grey.

What other interesting things do yours enjoy? Can't insult her ladyship by offering mere carrots.
 
Mine love watermelon too!

My boy loves creme eggs - he squeezes them until they pop and then gets all giddy
 
One of mine loves melon too, along with grapes and oranges.

We had a section A that loved the orange slices that had been in the mulled wine (we did mulled wine on the yard for liveries on Xmas eve)
 
Not particularly odd but quite clever; my little pony never misses a chance to get in the hay barn but it's not the hay she's after but snuffles the waste on the floor for seeds, probably very like oats. Also doesn't like carrots.
 
aside from anything edible/in a packet that rustles...

cookies, custard creams, crunchies, frosties, diet coke, doughnuts and jelly beans (particularly the red and orange ones)


should I be worried?
 
meat pie and chips and has a passion for the burgers from the van strange but true
Broke an egg today so lobbed it into one of the feeds to save wasting it they had an interesting take on that one

My old boy used to love bananas - I discovered this one day when eating one without due care and attention and he just leaned over my shoulder and sucked the whole thing up, leaving me with the skin. If you put whole ones in the skin in his feed he would bite the end off then suck the flesh out and leave the skins neatly piled up at the side of his feed skip.

My new boy Eric only likes spearmint extra strong mints or polos.

A previous pony of mine, if out loose in the yard, would chase the farm dogs off their food and eat their biscuits & gravy.

My boy loves bananas -go bars- cereal bars - pears- parsnips- oranges-*V* drink- .Not like his mum

who likes cream eggs - any chocolate- digestives- melons peaches- plums- pineapples-brocoli- and much much more
 
An old pony of mine stole my cheeseburger once. We were at a show and I was sat on the ramp of our lorry eating said burger whilst I was holding her leadrope whilst she grazed. She must have smelt the burger and prefered it over the grass because it was gone in about 5 seconds! She liked orange fanta too.
My mare from Belgium didn't like polos or any mints. Randomly found one day that she loved grapes! So when we were at a competition, other horses were give polos when they came out of the ring, and there was my poor mum with a bunch of grapes! Very awkward too as we found no end of squashed grapes in our pockets!
 
My horse is quite traditional in that an apple is great, but anything else is far too exotic! My pony however will eat anything! He likes to eat the purple flowers off the top of thistles (gingerly!) and about 12 years ago pulled my packed lunch off the top of my locker in his stable (I thought he was too small to reach!) by the time I found him he'd eaten all the pastry of a steak slice, but not the meat, and was tucking into a bag of midget gems. He REALLY likes those! My old horse used to got crazy for custard creams and pink wafers :)
 
I wandered past the old boys stable with a plate full of chicken curry leftovers (to feed the dogs with) -I stopped to say hello to him - I thought he might like to sniff it and to my amazement helped himself to a huge mouthful including the meat - he really seemed to enjoy it and pestered me for more.....
 
At the moment, the yellow gorse flowers are very popular in our field, it is hilarious to watch them carefully pick the flowers off without getting a mouthful of prickles.

They also eat the blackberries in season, I only noticed when wondering why the horse had a black tongue.

Apart from the usual fruit and veg (carrots, parsnips, apples, oranges, bananas), mine also likes plums and peaches. Again, discovered this by accident when he found a plum, popped it in his mouth, sucked carefully for a few minutes and then ejected the stone :p

Both the pony and myself snack on them while we are out. They are quite tasty but not at all like coconut, more like hawthorn.
