Strangles - also in Comp riders

Strangles is in Aberdeen area - few events are cancelled the one I have entered is on - Would you still go?

I was of the opinion if you are going to get it you will attitude but my friend said to me - I won't be visiting if your out at events with strangles on the go??

Argh what to do!

If it were me, it would depend on how close the outbreak was to the event. A few weeks ago there was a strangles outbreak near Jedburgh - I was due to be at an endurance ride 6 miles away, which went ahead on veterinary advice. To avoid any cross-infection, the officiating vets didn't do the usual mucous membrane etc checks; and we were advised not to let horses share water or feed buckets. But it's mainly commonsense. Remember there has to be physical contact with an infected horse for the virus to spread. Why not ask your vet for their opinion?
