I've recently brought a 4 year old coloured cob called Dave. I've never owned my own horse before but had a few shares and after being let down by the owner I decided to buy Dave from a dealer. I've moved him onto a wonderful yard with my friend. But unfortunately one of the horses have Strangles. I feel dirty all the time but I'm disinfecting everything from my buckets to my wheel barow. The infected horse has been isolated - it was always isolated and kept away from the other horses but I'm worried what if I walk where the infected horse's owner walks and then infects my horse? Also I brought a Dave as cobs are easy they dont need much feeding and are bombproof. The first day he broke out of the paddock through the electric fencing. He likes to walk all over me but is getting better for his Mummy. One morning he jumped out of his stable and headed for the infected horse so any ideas on how to keep him in his stable? He also trashes his bed and tips his water everywhere. Along with the bargyness I was wondering why he does this?
Can anyone help me along with the strangles problem I'm worried I'm going to get ill and my puppy dog. Also the jumping out of the stable something to lock him in but what?
Sorry this is a bit long but please someone help me. Oh and any suggestions need to be cheep as I've found out that a horse isn't going to help me keep my fake nails.
