Does anyone know how long the results take to come back ? my filly is being tested on Thursday before going off to her new home as it is a rule of the yard she is going to that she is tested clear before being allowed on the yard.

I had my horse tested at his new yard a few months ago - results were back in a few days - we were told by the vet to have him in quarantine for 2 weeks and then get him tested for strangles.

5 days normally could be 7 depending on what lab is used if your vet doesn't test in house.

In my view a strangles carrier test is a must, especially if the horse coming in has an unknown history or is coming from a large yard or auction house.

It's a nasty debilatating disease if it comes on the yard and the neighbouring yards won't be happy either !

There are several labs that do the test, aht and biobest for definite. Depends on testing schedule also. Eg biobest elisa test Mon, wed, Fri, (I think) results to ur vet same day but samples to be received by 9am on test day. I don't know aht test schedule. It is actually quite likely the blood test could be positive as it tests for antibodies to the disease. A positive antibody test indicates they may be clinically infected, they may be carriers or they may have been exposed in the past and may or may not have been clinically ill.
