Just heard that our first show of the season is cancelled due to strangles outbreak in the area. :(
Leighton Buzzard, Stanbridge & District RC show for tomorrow
Disappointed BUT wise decision made.
Anybody heard anymore of the outbreak ??? I heard weeks back of a case in Eaton Bray but no more.

There is one over the other side of westoning but havent heard of anything else.....to be honest everyone is so scared of telling people 'we have Strangles' because of the backlash so we arent really going to know where they are.
Our local vets had a talk on Strangles last week and it was very interesting and informative especially the part the it's a very common bacteria and we all have it on our skin and it's just like Flu, there is no cure/treatment but time and nursing. There were a group of people there that had it going on at there yard and were very brave to tell every one in the room.

I agree, there is always a stigma attached to it, ridiculous really. I remember back in the 80's when I worked for a vets and there was a huge outbreak at a yard with many horses. I dont often drive past it now but when I do it still enters my head that thats where 'They had Strangles'. Stupid I know!
If it were me - would I keep it quiet? - Not when next door is a dartmoor stud often with foals, I wouldn't want that on my conscience.

Same here, the more people that know the less it will be passed on.....did you know the first recorded case of Strangles was in 1251? So it's been around alot longer than we have :D
