So its been confirmed there are a few cases of strangles in Kent at the moment, none in the area our yard is, we are meant to be going to a XC clinic at one of the local XC courses, I haven't heard there is any strangle outbreaks in that area either, would you still take your horse or keep it on the yard till it the strangles subsides? thoughts? thanks :)

Personally wouldn't risk it, know one yard that tried to keep it quite until it came out, horses still leaving yard to go competing etc currently. For me, wouldn't risk it knowing that even though I would be careful there are others out there that are not.

this is what i'm thinking, although we took them out last sunday to a charity ride before we knew about any strangles

problem is that one yard that has it has not gone into lock down and has horses out and about. The worry is you will come into contact with one of them rather than the venue being an issue.

Terrible that the horses are still going out competing only to possibly spread it very irresponsible of them
Personally I wouldn't take mine out knowing this just to be on safe side

not heard of any in my area as yet (romney marsh) but will update if i do. a few from the yard went on sponsored ride a week last sunday so fingers crossed

Just spoken to our Vets in Sandwich and there is one confirmed case in Tilmanstone (near Dover) and the yard has been put into quarantine, nothing has been reported for Sandwich as yet. I’ve been advised that as long as we keep on top of our own hygiene and don’t touch, or allow the horses to sniff or come into contact with other horses we should be fine, and obviously not to hack over that area or go to any shows or events. If you have a farrier or dentist visiting they should also follow strict hygiene rules.

Hope this helps you guys

There is confirmed cases near me (not any of those mentioned above) but they have also not locked down their yard and are being very irresponsible about it, so no I wouldnt!
