Strangles in Suffolk and/or Norfolk

Hi, don't know of anything specific but the ILPH have closed their visitor centre in Norfolk as a precaution - wonder if its because of Stranglers ? their website doesn't give any details.

Don't know if thats any help !!

I have just found the bit on the ILPH website saying it is closed. That is not promising as ILPH is very near to Overa, where Carleton RC were going to be holding their show.

Have just read, Overa itself is clear (they have a vet note you can view that says it carries no risk).

The show has been cancelled due to "two local equestrian facilities, used by our members, unfortunately contracting "Strangles""

I don't know any more at the moment but am hoping that others will be able to tell us more if they can find out?

Have favourited this thread and will check back.

ETS: Just looked On WHW(ILPH) website which says:
"Due to disease precautions, Hall Farm is currently closed to visitors until further notice."

The wording of the note on the carleton web page is odd though.

"For the condition treated by this veterinary surgery:
Use of the shop, riding arenas, car park carries no risk to horses or risk of transfer to other premises (as opposed to any other horse premesis) "

So, it doesn't actually say that Overa doesn't have strangles, it implies they treated something there but that in that particular vets opinion it is safe to go there. It doesn't say they are clear though and the lack of information is quite off-putting when it comes to planning if we should go to their show a week later.

CuteCob - I know what you mean about off-putting.

I don't show at Overa, however if I did I think I would probably stay well clear until all of this has been sorted out, cleared and confirmed.

I'm still looking for more info as to what farms have actually got Strangles so I can work out how far away we are, and also whether people I know come to our yard also go to any of the yards mentioned.

Hi
Our livery yard owners went jumping at Overa last weekend. As far as I know they were not aware of any outbreak until I told them this morning. So keeping a close eye on horses that went. Overa had no signs up saying anything.

I live very close to both and from what i have heard, the ILPH has got a case of strangles and the horse/s have been quaranteened (sp).

With respect to Overa, they have not got strangles, they have had a number of foals die due to unknown reasons. (Rumours have it that it might be salmonella)

Best of my knowledge just two confirmed outbreaks in Norfolk one at Wreningham and one at Snetterton, however probably best not to go out unnecessarily until scale of problem clarified as transmission can be by humans touching infected horses.

Thankyou

If ILPH have it but Overa do not then Overa is probably OK to go to, although they are quite close strangles is not airbourne and realistically there is always strangles around somewhere.
The Wrenningham outbreak would explain Carleton RC cancelling as they have training sessions there so that clears it up a bit.
Lets hope it is contained.
