Strangles -numpty question

Hi

Have discovered that a field near our yard has a horse with suspected strangles. Have found this when searching the internet for info about this disease:

and it appears to be spread by direct contact with horses/handlers.

The numpty question is are we safe to ride past that field?

As someone who has had experience of strangles... in theory yes, in practice I wouldn't risk it for many weeks after the all clear, and I would expect the owners to be responsible and not ride out equally.
