Our RC has been told that there is Strangles at Sherston. Glos.

The owners are trying to warn everyone.

Yes it was on the local facebook yesterday. Apparently it's poor old Josh the hunt horse who went missing for a couple of weeks last year. The farm in question have asked walkers etc to stick to the paths and have let people in the area know. Good on them for making people aware. Just hope it doesn't lead to the mass hysteria that the word "strangles" often seems to create. Just added: he hasn't been hunting he is retired and it was said that he hadn't been off the farm so they don't know how he contracted it.

BEESTON HORSE SALE CANCELLED.

THE SALE OF 1000 LOTS OF TACK & SADDLES WILL COMMENCE AS USUAL AT 10AM

On the back of AHVLA & Independent Veterinary Advice the Team at Beeston have reluctantly been forced to cancel our 20th April Horse Auction.

Due to a recent outbreak of Strangles in various yards in North Wales and the local area, we feel it is our duty to limit the spread of the disease in anyway we can. We like you do not want all the summer shows put at risk through the continued movements by irresponsible owners.

We apologise for any inconvenience cause but trust that You understand and support our decision in this case. We will continue to monitor the Situation and will be providing updates for Our 18th May Sale.

We look forward to seeing Clients old and new at the Tack sale which will commence at 10am

Well done, nice to see money doesn't rule people do .Great admiration for your sensible decission.

I once had a pony in a yard where it was, nearly all the horses had it, some were quite poorly, but all recovered. My pony was one of the few who didn't get it, he may have had it previously.

Poor Boy. RIP. Horrible way to go. And good on the yard for being open and honest about this. Only way to prevent its spread is to be responsible. Honeylight - you were lucky. Perhaps your lad had had strangles before. Perhaps your bio security was good. Perhaps it was just one of those things. But strangles isn't to be taken lightly. Even if it just pulls them down it takes months to recover fully. And like Josh - some don't make it. Some have life long problems.

That said - strangles happens. It is in our wild equine population. We need to praise and support yards who are open and honest enough to shut down correctly.
