I've been asked to strap someone's horse for them, I have done a fair bit previously but only ever with a strapping pad. I now don't have one of these, does anyone know how to make a plait from straw to strap (apologies don't know what its called) and how does this differ from using a pad?
Many thanks in advance

In days of yore (when I was a kid) straw was combined much longer than it is nowadays......it was therefore easy to get three 'handfuls' and plait them, feeding the ends through to tidy the whole thing up.

Either buy a new pad or learn to use your hands to deliver any of the tapotment massage strokes.....hacking, cupping, pounding etc.

Whichever way you go, the same principles apply.......warm the area up first by grooming, slowly building the pressure and then switch to your chosen mechanism for strapping. Avoid all bony areas and stick to the big muscle masses.
