Had a lecture today, and i was taught how to Strap a horse.

i find in my 15yrs of horses i'd never been taught this before.
From what i saw today i think it must be pretty beneficial to the horse.

Does anyone on here actaully practice this on there horse/yard???

can't believe anyone who's been around horses for 15 years doesnt know how to strap!! It was as essential as a bran mash and bit of old sofa foam under the saddle...

no, i hate it. when i worked for a top rider i had to strap every horse every afternoon, they all detested it and would turn their bums to me the moment i opened the stable door carrying the grooming kit. (i know how to do it properly too, did it under supervision enough times.) i have never done it since.
a good groom, or a good massage, is beneficial and enjoyable for the horse and much better imho.

I have just started doing it to my big gelding as his bum is lop sided! He needs to build up on one side due to pelvis being tilted, have been attacking him, much to his disgust.

Poor boy. I always used to do the racehorses and stallions years ago. It did seem to go out of fashion tho.

Yeah the horse we did it on today, didn't look like he liked it either, but its not that bad. But more then likely will work, have you seen any improvement yet??

Theres a video on HHO teaching you how to strap correctly with Laura Bol...schmeir.........er (sorry don't know the spelling)

Its a popular method in showing, but they often use it on youngsters to build them up, but that is not an approach I agree with!

Alot of people prefer stable stretches and massage now but whatever works for you. Our old coachman would do it on every horse after it worked while I cleaned harness. Unfortunalty its a national trust property, i.e. open to the public, the amount of people i used to get running in shouting "theres a man hitting the horse" was unbelivable.

mine are strapped every time they are ridden. none of them bat an eyelid at it and one particularly seems to enjoy it, builds up his neck beautifully.
