Stratford Hills BE - Is it really that bad?

I really want to event on that weekend of the 14th June, but stupidly didnt get my entry in on time to BCA....

I have heard that the ground is bad there, but is it really THAT bad? Its not that far from me so I could do the PN there instead of BCA but dont want to ruin her legs!!

Friend said it was OK 2 years ago, I'm not convinced.

Look how low the entries are!

She said they had a 'track' that was ok all round the course.

It's forecast rain again this weekend so it may not be quite as bad as usual!
 
If it's any help, Rosie always goes (partly because it's close to them) with no ill effects to any of the horses.

thanks.....Its looking very unlikely that I'll get in to BCA so I may have to go with it... As Thistle said, it is going to rain this weekend so it may not be too bad!
 
i'm interested to read this too, i was thinking of going but have been put off, because i won't run on the hard and it's a lot of money for a dressage test! i wonder if they know they have this reputation for crap ground?

I have entered and hopefully will be doing the Intro there - its my first one - so I hope it isn't that bad!!!!!!

i must admit though, the entries are very low!! Im suprised they will even be able to run an event with such low numbers?

First we've heard of it! The terrain is quite hilly at times, there's always a good covering of grass, a lot of work gets put into to preparing the course before the BE event, infact before any event! I know its weather dependent but the course is always there if anyone wishes to go and take a look before sending in entries! I know a lot of people that run their horses with no problems. And surely if it was that bad Pippa Funnel wouldn't have run hers there last year
 
Its my local and its on clay like we are - its always rock hard, I wont run there with Dexter even with pads but its your choice.

Ground is good enough there to school all winter it just doesnt get soft/wet ever!

Please please BE give them an earlier date next yr!!

Pros are a different story to one horse owners I think and its loacl to her and they run PAVO qualifiers
 
Last year it rained all week leading up to the event and that was when Pippa was allowed late entries. Even with all of that rain the showjumping and dressage was still hard just extra slippery. The cross country is usually better than the dressage and show jumping. It is a local show for me, but if it doesn't rain a lot I won't be going ( late entry) . In fact I have entered for Milton Keynes instead, for the following week because they have a far better grass coverage.
 
I went there a few years ago & now simply will not enter due to the ground. To be fair they had treated the XC but the dressage & SJ were both very hard.

I did the Intro course there 3yrs ago. Although the ground had been rock hard, they'd worked really hard to aerovate it.

The XC course grass was yellow like hay, but the ground was lovely.

My horsey hates hard ground but she was fine in the SJ too.

I thought it was a lovely place, very smart, nice jumps. Presume they don't get so many entries as those in the S. East as they're a little bit out of the way?
