Just curious as to what every one pays for there straw. Large and small bale prices.
At the moment I don't pay for the straw I use, as it comes from one of our fields we rent out. If I had to pay it would be £20 for 400kg bale.
I am also curious as to how many bales you would use during the winter. This is my first year with my boy so I am trying to work out what I will need. Thus far I have set aside 5 large 400kg bales for two horses for the winter and am not sure if this will be enough.
Most of the time they be out side during the day and in of a night. I have a deepish bed and change once a week.
Also how many large bales of hay would you budget to use per month per horse given they will be grazing during the day.
Thoughts please and thank you for the input :D

I have only just got my boy but am using straw for first time in years, can't believe the price of it now though lol.
I am currently paying £2.50 a small bale, which i dont think is too bad, but I remember straw being 50p a bale lol back in the day

Hay I am currently paying £4.50 and its really good quality stuff, but will be getting more in and will be cheaper I am told so that is only a plus :)

Don't know if this is of any help to you working it out.

It never ceases to amaze me ,the price of straw. At the auctions it makes fantastic money and all the lots sell, yet nobody even bids for good hay.:confused::confused:

I'll be paying £2.00 for a small bale this year, was offered it cheaper off the field but was away the weekend it was cut and have no storage at the yard i'm at but it is being barn stored and I can pay for what I have each time I collect so I'm not complaining. Wish it was still 50p I remember those days as well!

Wow i am really lucky then my straw man lets me have 3 for £2.00 off the field and his hay off the field is £2.50 limited amount though. My other hay man is £3.00, my third supplier is £38 for a large round 10- 12 bales.

£2.50 for a small bale, £12 for half a large bale (don't know weight). The large bale lasts me 3 weeks so its not too bad :)

New delivery tomorrow and with that brings new lower prices woohoo :D :D music to my ears that ha ha

Straw is 1.50 a bale
Hay is 3.50 a bale and they are big bales I helped with the unloading of them.

Happy with these prices to be honest as I am used to paying really high end prices on previous yards, one being a big round bale of hay cost me £50!!!!!!
(then I find out once I left yard I was being well and truely overcharged) they were getting it in for 25 theres a profit and theres daylight robbery!
