Am on straw at the moment, but am starting to get annoyed with the amount that my horses eat and how storage is a pain as i can only get large bales. Am starting to consider shavings have been on them before but just wanted peoples opinions. Also have heard rumours that straw will be expensive soon due to all the bad weather were having.

I use flax bedding a lot easier and my husband helps to much out he wont touch straw. It is more expensive but agree with this weather straw might get expensive too.

have for years been on hunter and recently changed about 6 months ago to ned bed. was really happy bt they are getting expensive £6.10 now. i have had a little 12.2 in to sell and i put her on straw for cheapest and i love it am now moving all my others over today. have bought jeyes and will spray it

prefer to muck out the shavings horses at yard

would rather sleep on straw

straw easier to dispose of...

My yard can barely get any at the moment because there just isn't any around

Someone has to drive down to get it at a much higher price form somewhere else because the people who usually deliver just don't have enough.

I like straw and shavings pretty much the same though.

Was on straw for a while but pony kept eating it! Agree alot better to dispose of but shavings are alot easier to muck out!

I used to use straw as it's included in my livery, semi deep litter during the week and then full dig out at the weekends - the bed used to stink!!

Now on shavings as pony had laminitis - I've been deep littering since October last year, just taking out the wet patches when they surface to the top of the bed. I add a bale (2 at most) a week and the bed doesn't smell at all.

Much prefer shavings now, better for pony too as she used to cough on straw, but not on the current regime.
