Hiya,

Floofy poopy (6 months tomorrow) has quite long pasterns like his daddy and someone at club today said there was a sort of build -up powder you can feed for this?
SA something or other?
He's on raw (tripe and chicken wings mostly, with kibble as a treat) and I am exercising him on sand/uneven surfaces to help build his strength.
Any other tricks or tips or supplements I could use?

Pic of him and his daddy to compare, or am I being paranoid?
Dad works well to a very high standard so it doesn't seem to cause any issues.

CC I dont know what the supplement to feed is but years ago we used to rinse a cloth out in vinegar and rub on the legs for the point to pointers and hunters. It was supposed to harden up their legs but we never had one break down.

I know you have very high expectations for Floofy and dont want to leave anything to chance but feeding correctly is 99% of it and you doing that so dont worry.

road work is the best thing I know of for strengthening pasterns. Never heard of feeding any supplements so cant help there I'm afraid!

Thanks chaps, he is getting roadwork too but not too much as I don't want to hammer his joints.
Having said that if his hips and elbows come back clean I will be amazed, with the amount of mad kamikaze charging around he does!!!!
Spend most of my days squeaing **careful!!!**

SA37? We used to give it as a general supplement years ago, not sure if it would help with pasterns. Our Askan had very long pasterns, we gave him lots of steady road work, and also encouraged him to gait against the current in a stream near us, similar principle to Red Rum working in the sea to strengthen his legs. :) Lots of work on the beach and in the sea might help Floofy, he's looking good but yes I would say needs to come up on his pasterns a bit, but he is still young enough for them to improve.

Give 500mg of vitiman C daily,it strengthens collagen .the stuff that binds everything together. We use it in bullies to keep their front legs gun barrel straight and they must have short strong upright pasterns. As for exercise ,plenty ..not too much..of free galloping esp on sand dunes,or muddy fields. Roadwork is too much at such a tender age.

That's it MM!! Any idea where I can get hold of it?
Did it come from Askan's sireline too, as I recall correctly?

Nails seem fine and he does gait beautifully (lads take the piss out of me for that, making him trot like a show dog and I was told it was 'sacrilege' to stand him like that :p)

Be interesting to see his two brothers later this month and see if they have inherited it too.

You really notice it in his father when he is out of work, he was just coming back from a strain when that pic was taken and they looked worse in the flesh, but much improved now he is competing again.

Thanks EK - with the Vit C will it be too late to make an improvement/has that ship sailed?
That is pretty much his exercise regime but he does launch himself off/over things :o

Jasmine, he gets wings, thighs, legs - I was warned off feet because of the nails, but others on here have said it shouldn't be a problem?

See the guy I work for at the minute, his parents are turkey farmers and I could get bagfuls of free turkey feet.....

(I can see myself living in my car if my mother gets wind of this :o)

Then go for the turkey feet..a great natural source of calcium and phosphorous..but vit C..better late than never,go double dose,it cannot hurt.We use it with our bullies from eight weeks thru to a year, very old fashioned but it seems to work!:)

Ah, this is going to be an expensive day, have to pay for my hols, he also needs wormed and he ate his bed when my mother was supposed to be watching him on Friday, off to Holland and Barrett as well, then!
