In non ridden work (waiting for the saddler to come out and fit the saddle to him)

at the moment im lunging him loosely on the pessoa which he seems to be doing quite well on. i would long rein him but he just shortens up and brings his head back while tensing so that doesnt really work :o

any other ideas?

im lunging him everyother day for 10 mins on the pessoa and the days hes not lunging im free schooling... would lunging/free schooling with poles work?

thanks :)

1. Walking and trotting over slightly raised poles. Then having alternate poles so one end of the pole is slightly raised and the other end is flat, and walking/trotting down them.

2. Using a long straight line of poles (raised or not), weaving across and back up the line.

...Apparently this can help

I'm sure there are better ones tho :D

If it's for strengthening stomach muscles.... I think it was my saddler, if not may have been the physio or maybe instructor anyway...... that told me I needed to run the ends of my fingers (knuckles if not working) along the underside of my old mares belly, this would make her raise her back and hold in her stomach muscles thus strengthening them, think sit ups horse style. I would do a few a day on either side, did seem to do the trick. Sorry if I haven't explained that very well :)
